Herbal Apprenticeship This is a 10 month program guiding you into the very heart of herbalism, instilling the necessary skills to practice this ancient healing art as well as a profound understanding of the spirit and essence of herbalism. It uses as its base The Science and Art of Herbology curriculum written by Rosemary Gladstar which is designed to provide a systematic, in-depth study of herbs. The course emphasizes the foundations of herbalism, wild plant identification, medicinal herbology, herb gardening, herbal preparation, natural cosmetics, medicinal formulation, earth awareness and ceremony, and the techniques of harvesting, drying and storing plants.
Lesson 1: Determining good quality herbs, herbal preparations, herbs for the nervous system
Lesson 2: How to create herbal beverage blends, herbal oils, salves, ointments and balms, herbal treatment for skin problems, herbs for the liver, hayfever and allergies
Lesson 3: Preparation of tinctures, liniments, capsules, and herbal pills, herbs for the respiratory system, drying, harvesting and storing herbs
Lesson 4: Herbs for children, chemical constituents of herbs, herbs for the urinary system and kidneys, basic aromatherapy, herbal dream applications
Lesson 5: Herbal pet care, compresses and poultices, herbal stimulants, natural cosmetics, herbal first aid kit
Lesson 6: Women’s health and herbs for the female reproductive system, pregnancy and childbirth, menopause and croneship
Lesson 7: How to create medicinal herbal blends, herbs for winter health, herbs for the male reproductive system
Lesson 8: Herb gardening, making a plant press and herbarium, vitamins and mineral formulas, herbs for the digestive system
Lesson 9: Preventive health and developing a personal health program, cardiovascular system, legal herbalism, the question of “safe” and “unsafe” herbs
Lesson 10: Wild plant identification, wild food cooking, flower essences, herbs for the immune system
The apprenticeship typically meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month (actual class meeting dates will be distributed in January), starting in February, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Scentsibilities in Boylston. To get the most from the program, written homework will need to be done between the meeting dates. The cost of $995 includes all course materials, lessons and supplies. Registration with a $175 deposit must be received by December 27th to enroll and so that the course materials can be ordered. Payment in full must be made by February 1st. Upon completion of all class meetings and written course work, a certification of completion will be issued from Rosemary Gladstar.
