A DAY WITH GUIDO MASE Saturday, February 4th 11AM to 5PM
The Herbal Community of Central Mass is sponsoring two workshops with Guido Masé in this one day special event. You may attend the whole day at a discounted price of $45 if you register before January 21st (full price of $60 after the 21st), or attend just an individual morning or afternoon workshop.
History of Herbal Medicine in the United States during the 19th & 20th Centuries: 11AM - 1 PM $25 Learn the roots, growth and manipulation of plant-based medicine in our country during the last 200+ years. Knowing this history (so rarely taught in medical schools) can help us better understand the unique nature of the American herbal movement, the rise of the military-industrial-pharmaceutical complex, and the challenges that herbal medicine faces today. Much of what happened during the 1800s is happening again today! Let us learn from our mistakes so that plants can rise to their rightful place in medicine without being corrupted or co-opted.
Lunch Break 1PM - 2PM There will be an offering for lunch purchase or bring your own
Herbal Clinic Essentials: 2PM - 5PM $35 What goes into creating an herb clinic? What structures, both physical and procedural, are required? How does the operation of a clinic that focuses on botanical medicine, fit into the current regulatory environment? We will explore these questions and also discuss the art of the intake in herbal medicine including very basic tongue, pulse and physiognomic assessment techniques; and to learn about a simple and sage but very effective therapeutic framework involving three basic classes of medicinal herbs.
The workshop will be held at the Doyle Center, 464 Abbot Ave, Leominster, MA. This is a "green" facility built by the Trustees of the Reservations at Doyle Community Park in 2004. For more information on the space, visit www.http://www.thetrustees.org/what-we-care-about/climate-change/green-buildings/doyle-conservation-center.html

More on Guido Masé, RH (AHG)
Guido Masé is a well known clinical herbalist, herbal educator and garden steward specializing in holistic Western herbalism, though his approach is eclectic and draws upon many influences. He spent his childhood in Italy, in the central Alps and in a Renaissance town called Ferrara. After traveling the United States, he settled into central Vermont where he has been living since 1996 and began a family while accomplishing and teaching in this herbal movement. He is a founder and director of the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism, a non-profit sliding-scale community clinic and apothecary that also offers an intensive 3-year clinical herbalist training program (www.vtherbcenter.org). He works clinically and teaches as a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild and is a part of United Plant Savers and the American Botanical Council. He also created and runs Grian Herbs / Imber Gardens, Montpelier, VT. He works with many herbal farms in New England area.
Guido's experience includes founding and operating an herbal extract company focused on local harvesting and production; co-founding and co-directing a non-profit community herbal clinic; teaching herbal medicine to a variety of audiences ranging from the very young to herbal conference attendees, apprentices, and medical students; and working with clients one-on-one to discover ways to support and enhance health using whole plants and whole foods.
Guido's teaching style focuses on conveying the interconnections within the human organism and between the organism and its surrounding ecology with a constant eye to the amazing beauty such study reveals: at any level, and in many different "languages", herbs mirror people, the plant and animal kingdoms grew up together as complements. Such a relational awareness provides meaning and context, critical elements to understanding and also to healing.
At home, he spends time with his wife Anne and daughter Uli. He enjoys cooking and eating with family and friends, writing on topics in herbal medicine and human health, playing music, and experimenting with distillates and novel herbal formulae. Time alone is usually spent running on road and trail (often in the very early morning). Occasionally he will race a marathon.
Guido works clinically and teaches as a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild, and is a part of United Plant Savers and the American Botanical Council.
